Mike, an American businessman, had to fly to Guangzhou the next day to take part in business talks. It was too late for him to get a Chinese visa from the Chinese embassy in the USA. He was at a loss what to do when his colleague in Guangzhou telephoned him, asking him about his flight number and time of arrival. Mike told him about the dilemma and asked what could be done about it.

This colleague in Guangzhou told Mike not to worry, assuring him that he may get a port visa when he arrived in Guangzhou's Baiyun International Airport. Mike was relieved. He boarded the plane the next day, arrived at Baiyun International Airport, got a port visa and entered China on time without any difficulty.

In fact, quite a few foreigners like Mike have come to China in this way because they did not have the time to get a Chinese visa before the journey. In Guangdong province, there are several port visa offices, which are located in the following places: Baiyun International Airport and East Railway Station of Guangzhou, Luohu Border Crossing, Huanggang Border Crossing, Shekou Port and Fuyong Wharf of Shenzhen, Gongbei Border Crossing, Jiuzhou Port and Hengqin Port of Zhuhai, the Shantou Airport, and the Zhongshan Port. Foreigners who have to come to China for urgent business can get a port visa from those offices.
